Cymbidium cyperifolium subsp. indochinense PDF พิมพ์ อีเมล

Cym. cyperifolium subsp. indochinense is a terrestrial species which is not common in cultivation. A unique characteristics is its strict deciduousness. Flowers may resemble that of Cym. ensifolium but larger. Plus their flower count is higher. Their mid-lobe is generally broader and not as kinked. Scent of Cym. cyperifolium subsp. indochinense is totally different from the fragrance of Cym. ensifolium. I personally do not consider its scent as fragrance. It is slightly smellish to me.

Number of leaves is higher and the change of cataphyll to real leaves is grandual, whereas the change is abrupt in Cym. ensifolium. The texture of leaves between the two species are obviously different as well.

Flowering Period: At the start of monsoon season, from July-August.

Distribution & Habitat: The species occurs on the ground of deciduous Dipterocarp forests mixed with Pine trees at elevations of 400-800 metres in northern Thailand. It is also expected in Burma and southwest Yunnan.

Cym. cyperifolium subsp. indochinense has a potential to emerge as a new species, separated from Cym. cyperifolium subsp. cyperifolium, since their phenotypes between the two subspecies are obvious.
