Cymbidium Australian Midnight is a novelty primary cross between Cym. atropurpureum and Cym canaliculatum 'Sparksii'. Because of using the solid dark-coloured variety of Cym. canaliculatum in the hybridization, the exotic dark colour imparts to the progeny as shown.

To trigger the bloom, water should be much reduced after the end of monsoon season, around October-November. Australian Midnight usually blooms from January to March. Their flowers are strongly fragrant.

The plant is rather large but it is not a fast grower which is a characteristic derived from Cym. canaliculatum. Though, the plant is very easy to take care.
