Cymbidium Valerie Absolonova is a hybrid with two famous HTCs, C. Golden Elf and C. Peter Pan. Milton Carpenter of Florida made the cross and registered the hybrid in 1989. However, the first cross is triploid and most seedlings are hard to breed. Later, Andy Easton remade the cross by using both tetraploid C. Golden Elf and C. Peter Pan, producing fully fertile Valerie Absolonova.
Colours and heat tolerance are variable among each different clones.

The clone 'Ruby Lip' is proved for its high heat tolerance as it can bloom almost year round in Bangkok. In addition, the spike productivity is quite high.
